In Singapore, taxi cab fares must be charged by the taxi meter and are based on a flag down rate and the distance travelled. The flag down rate ranges from S$3.00 to S$5.00 (depending on the type of taxi). A location surcharge may also apply.
During peak periods (e.g. 7am to 9.30am and 5pm to 11pm on weekdays), rainy days or festive seasons, demand for taxis rises. Best is to book a taxi by phone., however a booking fee is applicable. In Singapore, it is an offence for a person to smoke in non-smoking areas listed under the Smoking (Prohibition in Certain Places) Act. To enjoy a refund on the 7% Goods and Services Tax (GST) paid on your purchases, you need to make at least S$100 worth of purchases from participating outlet. Request for a refund voucher upon purchase, which you should present with your purchases, receipts and passport at the Tax Refund Counter of the airport before you fly off.
All goods brought into Singapore are subject to 7% GST. However, travelers can enjoy GST relief on goods meant for their personal use depending on the time spent away from Singapore.
